Flutter and Dart Take Center Stage at Google Cloud Next 2026: Full-Stack Dart, GenUI Coffee Shop, and Enterprise Wins

Last updated: 2026-05-10 11:26:25 · Environment & Energy

Google Cloud Next 2026 concluded in Las Vegas with major announcements from the Flutter and Dart team, drawing over 30,000 attendees. The most significant reveal: preview support for Dart in Firebase Functions, enabling developers to use Dart for both frontend and backend.

Big Announcements

Full-stack Dart is now a reality. The team announced a preview of Dart support for Firebase Functions, allowing developers to write cloud functions in Dart. "This is a game-changer for Dart developers," said Emma Twersky, Developer Advocate at Google. "You can now build your entire application—frontend and backend—with a single language." Deeper Firebase integrations via the Dart Admin SDK reduce context switching and accelerate development.

For more details, see the official announcement blog and documentation. A full breakout session about this feature is scheduled for Google I/O.

Onsite Experiences

GenLatte: AI-Powered Coffee Shop

In the center of the expo floor, Google built GenLatte, an AI-powered specialty coffee shop powered by Flutter GenUI. Attendees used a Flutter app to order drinks, then watched baristas create lattes with custom foam art generated by nanobanana. "We wanted to show how GenUI can create delightful, interactive experiences," said Kate Lovett, Flutter Product Manager.

Agentic Mobile & Web Demos

The expo floor featured three Dart and Flutter demos: Fullstack Dart, GenUI, and a special appearance by VGV. Developers saw how agents can dynamically generate UIs in real time. The Partiful app demonstrated on-the-fly UI generation, while Firebase Functions for Dart showcased backend logic.

Builder Hub

The Builder Hub served as a home base for the developer community. Dedicated booths for Flutter, Firebase, and Go provided spaces for developers to connect with experts and explore new tools. Attendees could meet team members, ask questions, and test integrations.

Key Sessions & Customer Stories

Developer keynote host Emma Twersky highlighted how Flutter is central to Google Cloud’s bet on agentic architectures. "Flutter is not just for mobile anymore; it's a core part of Google Cloud’s vision for the future of agents," she said.

Real-world enterprise success stories were front and center. Toyota shared how Flutter powers their next-generation infotainment systems, revolutionizing automotive UX. Talabat demonstrated how Flutter enables faster innovation and scaling across the Middle East. Abdallah Shaban, Flutter Engineering Lead, joined the customer leaders on stage.

Generative UI Deep Dive

Yegor Jbanov and Andrew Brogdon led a session on moving beyond text-based chatbots by giving agents the power to create their own UI. "This opens up a new paradigm for human-agent interaction," Brogdon said. The session will be available on the Flutter YouTube channel after Google I/O.

Building Full-Stack Dart

Rody Davis and Kevin Moore presented why developers should be excited about full-stack Dart. They offered live coding demos and shared best practices for integrating Firebase Functions with existing Flutter apps.

Background

Google Cloud Next is the company’s flagship conference for cloud developers and enterprises. Flutter has emerged as a key framework for building cross-platform applications, and Google is increasingly integrating it with cloud services. The 2026 event marks the most ambitious Flutter announcements yet, with full-stack Dart positioning Flutter as a serious contender for backend development.

What This Means

For developers, Dart support for Firebase Functions eliminates the need to switch between languages for frontend and backend work. This unified language approach can boost productivity and reduce bugs. The GenUI demonstrations hint at a future where user interfaces are generated dynamically by AI agents, potentially changing how apps are built and experienced. Enterprise adoptions by Toyota and Talabat signal that Flutter is ready for large-scale production use, from automotive infotainment to food delivery platforms.

Attendees and online viewers can find session recordings and documentation on the Google Cloud Next website. All eyes are now on Google I/O, where more Flutter and Dart innovations are expected.
